Martin L asked: The reconciliation of the health care legislation is taking place behind closed doors, without formal meetings, without the traditional conference committee to reconcile the bill, and in flagrant violation of one of President Obama’s major campaign promises: to make the health-care negotiations available to public and specifically to broadcast them on C-SPAN.
This is being done in flagrant violation of one of President Obama’s major campaign promises: to make the health-care negotiations available to public and specifically to broadcast them on C-SPAN. The link below is a Breitbart TV montage of no fewer than EIGHT campaign appearances at which Obama made this promise:

Also, C-SPAN’s Brian Lamb has written an open letter demanding that the president make good on his promise to televise the negotiations.

Even though this would be the easiest campaign promise in the world to keep, the White House has responded to requests for transparency by refusing to answer questions on the issue.
This is “the era of open government”?
What are your thoughts?
STUDLIEST, thanks for your answer, but I disagree. These reconciliation meetings will include representatives from the House and Senate AND the White House.
If Obama wants transparency, he can refuse to part in these negotiations until they are televised as promised. Simple.
So in this instance, he certainly does have the power, because he does have a say in whether these particular negotiations will be telvised.
Jx2-57, you at least admit that Obama has broken a promise. Our only disagreement is that you think he was justified in breaking the promise, and I do not.
Can you give some examples of how the right “sabotaged the legislative process”? I’m not a Republican, and I don’t approve of every move they made or word they spoke, but in general I don’t see where their actions or words have risen to that level.
According to the latest Rasmussen poll, 52% oppose these bills, while only 42% support them. In addition, 59% of voters believe passage of the plan will increase the cost of health care, and 51% think it will hurt the quality of care.
So, while the Republicans are a minority in the House and Senate, their position on this matter represents the majority of the country at large. You can therefore see the need to be vocal about their opposition to this excrementous piece of legislation.
Are you mad because a minority voice exercised its right to free speech?
