Welfare and Healthcare?

My fiancee and I work in the hospitality industry. Which we both do very well. I am a waitress and he is a head chef. Both of us average about 14/per hour. We also work our 35-50 hour weeks when the season arrives. My confusion sets in that a friend of ours who is on welfare receives better healthcare than we do. Not only that but she seems to get more money from the state and federal expense. So my question would be.

How is it that my fiancee and I who work hard yet receive no healthcare from our jobs struggle to find good healthcare but someone who doesn’t work and lives on welfare can recieve good healthcare.
I bring this up because she was able to get her teeth fixed for a small charge when it cost me 2000 just to get 2 teeth fixed. I understand that’s dental…and I question that as well.
